A Hoodie That Updates Your Facebook Wirelessly

Have you ever been in a situation where a computer or smartphone is just too far away but you wanted to keep your Facebook friends updated on your goings on? Well then the Ping Social Networking Garment is for you.

Produced by ElectricFoxy, this hoodie will inform your friends whenever you preform certain gestures. Lift up the hood, zip up, zip down, bend over or just swing around and your status will be updated automatically. There is no need for a phone or computer. It connects to your account wirelessly using an Arduino Lilypad and Xbee. The material is woven with flexible sensors and conductive threads that communicate to the computers. Although just in the design phase the technology is completely workable and feasible for market use.

Designer Jennifer Darmour sees clothing in the future with the ability to recognize full 3D body gestures and to allow us to control objects with body movement through wearable garments:

Rather than simply attaching technology to clothing, the project investigates garments that have electronics built directly into them resulting in a new aesthetic of form and behavior that become a core part of our expression, our identity, and our individuality.
