Bolivian Coca-Cola Imposter Contains Real Coca Extract
Coca-Cola, one of the world’s best known brands has a new competitor with an eerie resemblance to ‘the real thing.’ Evo Morales, Bolivia’s president has approved the production, distribution, and sale of a fizzy new beverage, Coca Colla.
The new soft drink has a number of similarities to Coca-Cola. For starters, it’s a dark-colored soda in a bottle wrapped in the iconic red label donning the name which looks like a misspelling of the real Coca-Cola. Then, there’s the use of one of Coke’s earliest claims to fame — the use of Coca extract, the same ingredient used to make cocaine.

Although Atlanta-based Coca-Cola has yet to comment, it’s likely they’ll have a problem with it, and they’re not the only ones. The U.S. has warned that demand for the product will increase the acceptance and further demand for the cultivation of the coca leaf. This increase in demand could lead to the siphoning of the coca leaf for cocaine distribution and has accused Bolivia of failure to cooperate with its “war on drugs.”
