Electric Car Runs 1,000km Without Charging, Breaks Record
A new Guinness World Record has been set by an electric vehicle, which traveled a distance of 1,003.184km without recharging. The previous record, set in April 2009, was 555.6km. The trial run of the car, a Mira EV powered by a SANYO lithium-ion battery system, was driven by members of the Japan Electric Vehicle Club (Japan EV Club), and the qualifying record-breaking run was completed at a training school for auto racers in Japan on May 23, 2010.

As for how the battery was constructed:
The SANYO lithium-ion battery systems employed in the Mira EV were designed by assembling 8,320 cylindrical lithium-ion batteries (18650-type) which are normally used in laptops etc, similar to the configuration used in the April record.
