World’s Largest Photo is 45-Gigapixel Panorama

Dubai boasts some of the biggest buildings in the world, and some of the most fun (see the indoor ski resort). Now, however, a panorama of Dubai has just been named the World’s Largest Photo. Coming in at 45 Gigapixels, this panoramic shot by Gerald Donovan almost doubles the previous record holder at 26 Gigapixels.

Donovan used a Gigapan EPIC Pro and a Canon 7D to create this image. The whole process took over 3 and a half hours and over 4,200 images which PetaPixel notes, would take up about 1,200 billboards if it were printed.

Amazing Scultpures Made From Circuit Boards

Cuban born artist Steven Rodrig has taken something mundane and transformed it into something truly awesome. While never formally trained in the arts, 47-year old Rodrig has always wanted to craft sculptures from unique materials. A student of structural mechanics, he certainly has the knowledge (and obiously talent) to put together wonderful pieces of work. He is currently entering his art work in various galleries in NYC for exhibition. He explains how he began using PCBS (Printed circuit boards) as his medium:

About a year ago I started experimenting with PCBS as a form of art. I work for a DEM manufacturer and am exposed to PCBS. I don’t design or develop them. Only look at them for obvious errors. There was one PCB in particular that grabbed my artistic eye and made me think that it was almost organic. It also made me think at that moment that this PCB was perfect on its own. In design and in purpose and would be even more perfect if it was part of an arrangement of other perfect PCBS to form something organic.

New Pioneer Blu-ray Uses iPhone As Remote

Pioneer has two new models of Blu-ray players that will be on the market next month. Both models, the BDP-330 and the BDP-LX53 will be controllable via your iPhone (iPod as well) using the iControlAVR app. The unit will of course need to be connected to a WiFi network to be put to use. From the looks of the app you’ll be able to control such things as play, rewind, fast forward, etc. There isn’t too much information about all of the controls but it looks to be pretty standard.

Skinput Uses Arm As Input Device

A student at Carnegie Mellon University and a former intern at Microsoft Research, Chris Harrison has developed a new input “device” that uses a persons palm and forearm as the “keyboard”. The new technology is being called Skinput. Harrison explains:

“People don’t love the iPhone keyboard. They use them. But they don’t love them. If you could make the iPhone keyboard as big as an arm — that would be huge. You could pretty much do a lot of what you do on your iPhone, its [like having] your iPhone on your palm.”

The device has been in development for 8 months but is not quite ready for deployment. Working alongside a Mircrosoft researcher, Dan Morris, Harrison believes the product will be available to the public in 2-7 years. Although it is currently workable the accuracy is not on point enough for it to be viable.
