Wind-Powered Car That Goes Faster Than The Wind

Who wants to go fast? A wind-powered car has just been measured in the U.S. traveling downwind, get this… faster than the wind itself. The astonishing run finally answers a question that has been debated upon for quite sometime without a clear answer. That is, Can an object travel downwind faster than the wind?

In the run which took place in Tracy, California at New Jerusalem, the car, made of foam reached a speed of 2.85 times faster than the wind which at the time was traveling at 13.5 mph.

Electric Car Runs 1,000km Without Charging, Breaks Record

A new Guinness World Record has been set by an electric vehicle, which traveled a distance of 1,003.184km without recharging. The previous record, set in April 2009, was 555.6km. The trial run of the car, a Mira EV powered by a SANYO lithium-ion battery system, was driven by members of the Japan Electric Vehicle Club (Japan EV Club), and the qualifying record-breaking run was completed at a training school for auto racers in Japan on May 23, 2010.

New Technology Allows Drivers to Steer Car With Their Eyes

How cool would it be if you could drive a car with your eyes? The answer: Very cool! Unless of course a good-looking member of the opposite sex happens to be walking by. Well, assuming you don’t look astray, researchers at Freie Universität Berlin have developed the eyeDriver software which can steer a car simply using eye movements.

Right now the software is in testing and is proving its concept, but it definitely works, as you can see in the video below. The driver wears a helmet with cameras mounted to it which capture the driver’s eye movements. Those eye movements are then translated by a computer into directional signals.

2,487.5 MPG Eco Car Built By Students

Every year Shell holds an Eco-Marathon with the intent of finding more fuel efficient vehicles. The “race” has two categories, Prototype and UrbanConcept. The Prototypes are built to be the most fuel efficient regardless of aesthetics or road conditions, whereas the UrbanConcepts are geared more towards actual road-worthy transportation.

This year a team from Laval University in Quebec, Canada took the top prize with their concept car that gets a whopping 2,487.5 MPG.
