iWatch to be Announced at Next Apple Keynote?

Sadly…no, there’s no Apple iWatch on the way, but the creative team at ADR Studio have conceptualized a design for what it might look like if it were to become a reality. At some point I hope for this to be an actual product, and I could see it actually looking somewhat similar to what they’ve designed here.

This would be a fantastic device and I’m sure many a Mac geek would love to sport one on their wrist. The iWatch would in theory be constructed with the following:

- Aluminium body
- WiFi and Bluetooth
- Integrated RSS Reader
- 16GB
- Weather forecast system
- Possibility to connect to the Bluetooth or WiFi to iPhone / iPad
- LCD projector to show everywhere pictures by your iPhone / iPad
- Available in various colors

Sharp Develops High-Definition 3D Camera Module for Mobile Devices

In an industry first, Sharp has developed a camera module for mobile devices capable of shooting high definition 3D video. Today, the company announced plans to turn smart phone users into 3D video artists as early as next year. Yep, this means you’d be able to shoot 3D videos right from your iPhone or similar device, turning you into a mobile James Cameron.

From the press release:

3D images are composed of two views taken using two cameras that simultaneously capture separate images for the right and left eyes. Consequently, a 3D camera requires peripheral circuitry to apply image processing to the two images, for example, to adjust color or to correct positioning between the images from the two cameras. Manufacturers have thus been pursuing designs that reduce the size and weight of 3D cameras and seeking ways to shorten their development period.

Sharp will begin shipping samples in July and plan to be mass producing these modules before 2010 comes to a close.

Apple Patents Mobile Payment System Called ‘Transaction’

A patent application recently surfaced in which Apple details a mobile payment system they name Transaction. Basically, with Transaction, users will be able to use their iPhones as an electronic payment solution, like a credit card.

A great idea, but I’m sure many people will be reluctant to keep their financial information on their iPhone considering the devices can be accessed and hacked like we’ve seen in the past. Maybe that’s why Apple has yet released the app. Or maybe they just haven’t built it yet. The patent application was originally filed back in 2008.

Apple and AT&T Original Exclusivity Through 2012

Though there has been much speculation about Apple ending their exclusivity contract with AT&T and allowing for an iPhone on another carrier (like Verizon), Apple has recently confirmed that their original contract runs through 2012. This confirmation pretty much squashes any rumors (of which there have been many) of the iPhone moving to another provider.

So what now? Well, even though Apple and AT&T are bound to the agreement by their contract, the contract could always be canceled or amended. So, although it may seem, for now that we won’t see the iPhone on another carrier until after 2012, that may not be the case. According to Engadget, there is an ongoing class-action lawsuit claiming that “Apple and AT&T illegally exerted a monopoly over iPhone service by telling customers the iPhone’s required service contract was two years long when the Apple / AT&T exclusivity deal was actually for five years — thus requiring buyers to re-up with AT&T for three years (and not, say, T-Mobile) if they wanted to keep using the iPhone.”

iPad Hacked to Play SNES Super Mario Bros. Using Wiimote

What do you get when you cross an iPad, a SNES emulator, and a wiimote? An iPad that plays SNES games using a wiimote for the controller, that’s what. Even though the iPad is already capable of portable gaming with its touchscreen interface and gaming apps, some people still like the feel of the remote they grew up playing with, and the games they grew up playing.

Apple Announces: One Million iPads Sold

Today, Apple has announced a milestone for its latest product, the iPad. Apple has sold over 1,000,000 iPads in 28 days since its introduction on April 3. Users have already downloaded apps in the millions, 12 million apps from the app store and over 1.5 million ebooks from their iBookstore.

From Steve Jobs:

One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone.

Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.

To date, developers have contributed over 5,000 iPad-specific apps, but the iPad will support almost all of the apps previously developed for the app store, of which there are more than 200,000.
