Most of us are familiar with the characters Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown, as well as, the amazingly modified DeLorean from the iconic 1985 movie, “Back to the Future.” Many of us can remember chewing on the last piece of popcorn and taking the movie out of our VCRs, while secretly wishing we too could time travel and change or alter the future, heck many of us may wish we could do it today.
There have been numerous time machines used in television shows and in film, but none have even come close to being as awesome as the time machine used by Marty McFly, the modified 1981 DeLorean DMC-12.
Prior to its popularity in the well-known 1985 film, the DeLorean was produced by the DeLorean Motor Company, which is the only model ever produced by the company, from 1981 until 1982, and again in 2008 until present. In 2013, the DeLorean Motor Company, in association with Epic EV, will be modifying this car once again and turning it into the electric DeLorean DMCEV, and although it won’t come with the flux capacitor (allowing you to go back to the future), it will run on electricity, which in a sense lets you alter the future by helping you save it.
This electric DeLorean DMCEV, looks very similar to the ones made in the 1980’s, with its gull wing doors and rear engine, but it will also come with a GPS system, leather looking interior, and an iPhone dock. It has a 30kWh lithium ion battery that offers over 100 miles between charges and approximately 3.5 hours of recharge time.
The most impressive element of this DeLorean is that even though it’s electric, it will still have a whopping 260 horsepower, a top speed of 125mph and will go from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds, which means, you can still have plenty of fun while going “green”. Speaking of green, you will need to have lots of it in your bank account in order to own this amazing DeLorean, $113,876.00, to be exact.
So maybe you won’t be able to time travel like Marty McFly, but at least you can help save the planet with the perfect mode of transportation as you travel along in your everyday life.
