Apple Delay’s White iPhone 4 Again

Today, Apple announced that the white version of their iPhone 4 that was set to come out at the end of July will be delayed again. This time, there is no expected date or time frame other than “they will not be available until later this year.”

Later this year could mean as late as December, which of course could then be delayed again and we may never see the promised white iPhone 4. The reason? Well, Apple again claims the white iPhone 4 to be, “more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected.” I would understand if there were big differences in the hardware or software, but not color. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Apple to Hold iPhone 4 Press Conference Friday

Apple Inc has called a surprise press conference for Friday to talk about the iPhone 4, as the company continues to deal with fallout from reported reception problems on its popular smartphone.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling said late on Wednesday the company would hold the event at 10 a.m. on Friday at its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

He declined to provide further details, or to say whether the event will address the signal-strength problems that some people have reported having with the iPhone 4 when the device is held in a certain way.

Apple has faced mounting criticism from analysts and consumers over its handling of complaints about the reception issues on the newest iPhone, which was launched last month.

Analysts say Apple has created a public relations headache for itself by appearing to dismiss or ignore the problem, allowing a minor issue to be turned into headline news.

REPORT: Apple Acquires Poly9 Mapping Company

Rumor has it that Apple has just acquired mapping company, Poly9. If that’s the case, this will be the second mapping acquisition by Apple which may confirm for some, Apple’s intentions of getting up in Google’s space. The report comes from a translated publication which mentions that Poly9 employees have relocated to Apple’s headquarters in California. Right now, the Poly9 website is down, maybe due to changes they’re making to reflect the acquisition?

Google to Launch Music Service to Rival Apple

Google Inc is planning to launch an online music downloading service tied to its search engine, the Wall Street Journal reported, a move that would pit it against Apple Inc and its popular iTunes site.

Google’s plans are still vague, but it has been “stepping up conversations” about offering music services online as well as over mobile phones that use its Android operating system, the Journal said, citing people familiar with the company’s talks with the music industry.

iWatch to be Announced at Next Apple Keynote?

Sadly…no, there’s no Apple iWatch on the way, but the creative team at ADR Studio have conceptualized a design for what it might look like if it were to become a reality. At some point I hope for this to be an actual product, and I could see it actually looking somewhat similar to what they’ve designed here.

This would be a fantastic device and I’m sure many a Mac geek would love to sport one on their wrist. The iWatch would in theory be constructed with the following:

- Aluminium body
- WiFi and Bluetooth
- Integrated RSS Reader
- 16GB
- Weather forecast system
- Possibility to connect to the Bluetooth or WiFi to iPhone / iPad

Apple Patents Mobile Payment System Called ‘Transaction’

A patent application recently surfaced in which Apple details a mobile payment system they name Transaction. Basically, with Transaction, users will be able to use their iPhones as an electronic payment solution, like a credit card.

A great idea, but I’m sure many people will be reluctant to keep their financial information on their iPhone considering the devices can be accessed and hacked like we’ve seen in the past. Maybe that’s why Apple has yet released the app. Or maybe they just haven’t built it yet. The patent application was originally filed back in 2008.
