A group in San Francisco is hoping to bring digital ads to license plates in California. As if we needed more distractions while driving. It’s a neat idea, but as it is meant to be read by other drivers, a potentially problematic one, though as it is right now, ads would only display when the driver has come to a stop. Drivers would be able to pick which ads display on their plates, but all the money would go to the state.
It’s all a part of California’s plan to get rid of the humongous debt they’ve accumulated, about $19 billion. Smart Plate, who is behind this initiative have about 3 years to research and asses the risks this could pose, how much money the state would earn, and develop a fully functioning prototype. Hey, maybe they can just strap an iPad to the back of the car, that’d work.
