In this hyper digitized world of instant access and mass communication on a global scale, people hook themselves to social media as an integral part of life.  Between Facebook, Twitter, email and cellphones, it’s nearly impossible for me to cut ties with anyone these days.  Posting any information on the web invites any and all people to gain access to my intimate affairs.  From my parents to exes to the people in high school I don’t want to think about to even insurers, the IRS, prospective employers and criminals, sensitive information is out there for anyone to snatch up and finally someone is talking about the inherent dangers involved.

Can AMEX and Twitter Save Your Wallet?

Social media has always been utilized in an array of different and creative ways, now, many businesses are scrambling to find new and innovate ways to capitalize on its popularity. The latest business to jump in is American Express. AMEX is partnering with Twitter and a myriad of businesses to give AMEX and Twitter users a new way to save.

The program is very simple. Register your Twitter account with your AMEX card (if you have one.) When you Tweet, you can use special customized hashtags (the text that looks like #TechVert) to get all kinds of discounts from participating businesses. There is no longer a need to print coupons, simply tweet and save money on the things you love. UK Ruling Allows Tweeting From Courtrooms

Reporters covering court cases should be allowed to send messages to the Twitter micro-blogging site, a senior British legal official said on Monday, clarifying rules after hearings involving WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Supporters and media at a bail hearing for Assange last week were allowed to use Twitter from inside one courtroom. However, a different judge banned the practice when an appeal went to a higher court two days later, causing confusion.

Under interim guidelines issued on Monday, officials approved the use of hand-held texting devices in court, with media representatives given priority. Permission remained conditional on not disrupting proceedings.

Twitter Considers Raising Over $100 Million

Microblogging service Twitter is considering raising funding that would value the company at $3 billion, according to a popular technology blog.

Russian technology investment firm DST Global is seeking to lead the funding round, which would be larger than the $100 million that Twitter raised in September 2009, according to a report on Wednesday on the blog TechCrunch. The report said that other investors are also eager to be involved.

San Francisco-based Twitter has 175 million users and is one of the most popular Internet social networking services. The company, which allows its users to broadcast short, 140-character messages, or Tweets, to groups of “followers,” has only recently started efforts to generate revenue through special ads that appear in certain parts of its service.

COMMUNITY Becomes First Show Ever to “air” Twittersode

Leading into the season premiere of COMMUNITY, NBC and Sony Pictures Television will debut a COMMUNITY “Twittersode” Thursday, September 23 at 4:00p.m./PT (7:00p.m./ET). This event marks a first-of-its-kind digital marketing effort between NBC, Sony Pictures Television, and the characters of the comedy series COMMUNITY.

Just prior to the East Coast premiere of COMMUNITY, an exclusive “Twittersode,” comprised of 80 tweets, will unfold between everyone’s favorite COMMUNITY characters. The “Twittersode” will act as a prequel “scene” to the premiere episode and will focus on events leading up to the start of the characters second year at Greendale Community College including, making arrangements for their first meet up of the year as well as preparations for their first class, Anthropology 101.
