Installation

Logitech C270 and C615 are both easy to use and set up, especially if you’re using a Windows PC that runs versions 7, 8, 10, and later. They also work in macOS computers for versions 10.10 and later, Android devices v.5.0 and newer, and Chrome OS PCs.

Both are also similar when setting up across different Operating Systems. First, plug the USB port into the PC. Then, after installing the drivers, you need to install the Logitech software called Logitech Camera Settings.

Installing the Logitech Camera Software is as easy as setting up the webcams. It lets you choose video recording mode – Standard or Widescreen, anti-flicker mode, color intensity, white balance, and brightness and contrast settings.

Moreover, both webcams can be easily mounted on your monitor, making them easy to rotate the camera without knocking them out of their positions. The cables have a length of 6.0 ft for C270 and 6.7 ft for C615, which you can connect into the USB ports of the CPU or laptop.

Video Quality

First, let’s talk about the video quality of Logitech C270. It records and streams at 720p for 30 fps. It’s not a high-quality feature per se, but it’s decent enough to get into zoom meetings and meet virtually with friends and family through Skype.

However, as technology improves, 720p no longer proves to be the HD resolution as it is in the past. Compared to higher pixeled webcams, it’s a lower resolution. It doesn’t reproduce the clear, sharp, and saturated image and video. Instead, all colors in the background, whether vibrant or not, are muted.

This webcam doesn’t have an autofocus feature. Instead, it has a fixed focus which is quite a bummer. It also doesn’t have the pan, tilt, and zoom feature as found with most Logitech webcams. This means you can’t rotate it between landscape and portrait mode. Plus, the field of view is at 60 degrees only.

So, if you want a polished, high definition, and professional image, pay more attention to a 1080p webcam such as Logitech C615.

Logitech C615 features a glass HD lens with 1080p recording capabilities and 720p video calls on different conferencing apps such as Google Hangouts, Facetime, Skype. It can even shoot 8 MP for still photos.

The lens is durable and provides optimum optical quality with a 74-degree field of view, which can fit two people in the same frame. What’s more, you can rotate the webcam for 360 degrees. You can tilt it vertically, providing more options for angles when attached to the monitor.

It even has a low-light correction feature to ensure crystal clear images and videos. The colors are warm and balanced in most lighting environments.

In addition, C615 has autofocus capabilities. As long as you’re within the field of view of the webcam, it will focus on you. Hence, a blurry video won’t be an issue.

Sound Quality

The sound quality for these webcams is similar. Each has a mono mic, which is quite inferior to the premium webcams equipped with multiple stereo mics and omnidirectional mics.

The mono mic feature means that the sound quality won’t be crisp and won’t produce natural sound compared to a webcam with integrated stereo mics. Fortunately, the mono mic feature can still deliver decent sound quality that is audible and clear.

It doesn’t mean the sound quality is poor. It’s just that Logitech has better offerings with other premium webcams. However, it’s only natural that these two webcams have mono mics, given their price points.

It even has a noise-reduction feature that makes your voice clearer. Overall, the sound quality for both of these webcams is average.

Since the sound quality is decent enough, some may find it unnecessary when using them for video conferences. After all, most people would buy a dedicated headset with a noise-canceling feature for superior sound quality and a top-notch microphone.

Special Features

Logitech C270 and C615 have a universal clip attached at the back. The universal clip allows you to securely connect the webcam on flat surfaces such as your monitor or shelf. Though, Logitech C615 offers more than the C270.

Logitech C615 can be mounted on a tripod, giving you more placement options. This is a feature especially for people who prefer to have different angles instead of the conventional screen mounting.

Moreover, C615 is fully rotatable. This means it can be rotated for 360 degrees allowing other people to fit into the screen. You only need to twist the webcam around to get other people to fit in the frame.

Alongside this, you can adjust its vertical angles. If you think a fully rotatable webcam is handy, C615 is a better choice.

Price

When it comes to price, Logitech C270 wins. It’s more affordable than Logitech C615, with a price of $39 on the Logitech website and $27.47 on Amazon.

Logitech C615, on the other hand, can be pretty difficult to purchase on the Logitech website since it’s out of stock most of the time. However, you can buy it on Amazon for a price of $49.99.

Despite the higher price tag of Logitech C615, it offers more features than C270. It has a higher resolution, is easily rotatable, and provides a broad frame to fit other people. While Logitech C270 wins at the price point, C615 offers more value for its price.

Conclusion – Logitech C270 vs C615

Choosing webcams is more of a personal preference. Others may ignore the HD quality just to purchase a cheaper option. However, some people want the most bang for the buck – offering high-quality features at an affordable price.

Logitech C270 is no doubt a budget webcam. It delivers 720p for 30 fps. It has a fixed focus instead of autofocus and has a plastic built instead of a glass one. Honestly, it is a reasonable price for the features it offers. It’s not that bad buying a Logitech C270.

However, it’s better to buy a higher-spec webcam to avoid you upgrading within a short period. Nonetheless, it’s still a good bargain for what it’s worth.

On the other hand, Logitech C615 wins in price, video quality, built material, and more. It offers more high-quality features to record videos at 1080p quality without color. In addition, blurry videos are no longer a problem because of their autofocus feature.

With its rotatable and wide-angle feature, you can also fit in with other people. Despite having the same audio quality as Logitech C270, it’s still a better choice for portability and quality. Therefore, Logitech C615 is the winner for this review.
