Gaming PCs these days are always emphasizing cases. They’re not just additional protective layers for your machine’s parts, but they can also be effective when it comes to design. Several manufacturers are taking advantage of RGB and LED technology, meaning that you’ll have hundreds if not thousands of choices when it comes to gaming PC cases.
An example of a good PC case manufacturer is Corsair. Within this decade, they could produce high-caliber products that can withstand the test of time. Corsair 4000X and 4000D are two of their products we will compare in today’s article. Since Corsair makes them, we already know that they will deliver. Still, we’ll make some comparisons and determine which of these two can be considered as the best buy.
Main Differences
Both cases are almost identical from a technical point of view. Only visually, there is a big difference. The Corsair iCUE 4000X has tempered glass on the front and one side. The Corsair iCUE 4000D, on the other hand, only has tempered glass on one side. This also makes the 4000X more expensive than the 4000D.

Dimensions and Compatibility
Corsair 4000X and 4000D are almost identical models, there are some iterations made, and although they may be minimal, there are some factors that these changes impact. Both cases are classified as mid-tower for the form factor, which means that ATX, mATX, and mini ITX motherboards will fit on both.
When it comes to their dimensions, they’re also identified with one another; 453 mm x 230 mm x 466 mm. They also have the same maximum GPU length of 360, maximum PSU length of 220, and total CPU cooler height of 170.
The Corsair 4000X weighs slightly different from the other option, weighing 8 kg. The 4000D, on the other hand, only weighs 7.85 kg.
Both products also share similarities regarding the drive bays installed inside them. There are two bays for 3.5″ drives, and the same goes for 2.5″.
Cable Management
According to the manufacturer’s website, both cases are capable of good cable management. They are again identical when it comes to this factor. Every cable can be easily tied to the PC case itself and be covered by the side panel. This way, the buyer will have the freedom to make the PC look attractive. Both models have single-channel cable storage capable of handling 25 mm of space.
Both products may also fall flat when it comes to cable management as some cables may still be visible from the inside. Still, it doesn’t matter since most cables blend with the black color of the case.
Optics
These two products that we’re pitting against each other may share a similar model identity, but their looks are entirely different. The Corsair 4000X has tempered glass front and side panels that allow for a much better and simple airflow setup that truly will deliver. Adjusting the case for later builds is also simpler as Corsair adapted to newer technologies and the latest upgrade paths.
The tempered glass side panels also allow anyone to have a closer look at how the machine works from the inside. These panels are also easy to install and remove, with easy-slide functionality that anyone can efficiently operate. RGB lighting comes from the fans and cooling, but even without it, the case is still stylish on its own.
The Corsair 4000D may look more straightforward than the 4000X. One thing that makes them different is the front panel. The 4000D doesn’t have a transparent one, but instead, a well-designed one that optimizes airflow more than anything else. Other than that, they’re still similar in the side panels. Thanks to its transparent tempered glass side panels, your internal RGB lighting can be evident on the 4000D case. That is, if you buy an RGB fan other than the stock cooler that is non-RGB.
The 4000x variant is capable of running RGB Corsair fans which can then be programmed using Corsair’s premiere iCue software. iCue is a beneficial tool that encourages Corsair users to personalize their setup by syncing their products’ RGB displays with one another. It opens up a lot of possibilities, especially those that are dedicated to Corsair.
As of the moment, both ATX cases are only available in black or white. Later models might utilize other colors and combinations, but it is still not sure.
Cooling
A PC case’s cooling should never be ignored as it would determine whether your setup will last for a long time. Those with poor cooling solutions can only last for months and not even years since CPUs might overheat after just some time of over-usage.
Both products are similar in cooling; their interiors can fit 6x 120mm and 4x 140mm fans. Having a multitude of fan placements makes both of these models a fantastic buy.
Inside the package of the Corsair 4000X comes three 120mm fans that are capable of RGB lighting. The same goes for the 4000D model, but it only contains two 120mm fans, and they are all non-RGB. The difference might be slight at first, but having an additional fan is a great way to save money since PC components, even those considered small, can be expensive.
Corsair 4000X and 4000D support the maximum radiator variant of 320mm. If you want to maximize this build’s airflow and design potential, consider some of Corsair’s coolers that are recommended and tested for these two PC cases that we feature: H55, H60, H75, H80i, H90, H100i, H105, H110i, H115i, and H150i CPU cooler.
Price
Even though these products are almost similar, Corsair is still selling them in two different price variations. The Corsair 4000X is priced at $134.99. This price tag is already steep, but it can be a good investment considering how much value you can get just by buying this. Not to mention that it also has an extra RGB fan included on it than its competitor; the price is justified.
The Corsair 4000D, on the other hand, is priced at $94.99, which makes it an ideal option for people that are just starting with PC building. There’s a $40 difference which is a big deal; we will include the price in our conclusion.
Conclusion – Corsair 4000X vs 4000D
When it comes to features and overall appearance, there’s no doubt that the Corsair 4000X takes the top place. Corsair’s 4000 series is impressive, and these two truly highlight what Corsair is capable of, primarily if they are focusing on one aspect at a time. The 4000X variant is more on RGB, and the 4000D is concentrated in airflow. That alone will give you an idea of what model to choose, depending on what you truly need.
Even if the difference in pricing is $40, we can still say that it is genuinely justified since the 4000X model features some classy RGB work. The included fans are truly amazing and are worth the price. On the other hand, the 4000D is still worthy of praise for its brilliant airflow that will surely make any modern case quiet in a high-performance mode.
